My friend Peter McWilliams was murdered by the Federal Government.

My friend Peter never smoked Marijuana until March of 1996, when he became really sick. His illness drove him to try anything to prolong his life. I knew of him because I admired his book "Ain't Nobody's Business". When I read the following article published in Variety, I knew that McWilliams was a novice and an optimist in the "drug war game". I knew from experience law enforcement would beat him to the ground.

Dec 16, 1997 - THE PETER McWILLIAMS 'VARIETY' AD: -

"A Friendly Rape" - McWilliams recalls December 18, 1997, 6:24 a.m. Twenty-four hours ago I was working in my living room on my computer next to a fire - I opened the door, in my bathrobe, and was immediately handcuffed. I was taken outside my house while the Drug Enforcement Administration agents ran through my house, guns drawn, commando-style, looking for, I suppose, the notorious, well-armed, highly trained Medical Marijuana Militia

December 18, 1997 Author: Sue McAllister, AGENTS RAID HOME OF WRITER ON MEDICAL USE OF MARIJUANA - The activist, Todd McCormick, is awaiting trial on charges of growing more than 1,000 marijuana plants. He was arrested July 29 in a rented Bel-Air home filled with more than 4,000 pot plants, which he said he was cultivating to treat his cancer. McCormick said he was also using the marijuana to contribute research to an upcoming book by Peter McWilliams, whose Laurel Canyon home was searched Wednesday.

Going To Pot: The Controversy Over Medicinal Marijuana - CNN's Burden of Proof Pubdate: Aired November 14, 1997 - ROGER COSSACK, CO-HOST: Marijuana has many names -- pot, weed, Mary Jane, reefer -- but can it be called "medicine?" Today on BURDEN OF PROOF, making the case for and against medicinal marijuana. - - Peter McWilliams gets high with a little help from his friends -- and his doctors. McWilliams suffers from cancer and AIDS. He says marijuana -- medical marijuana -- is the only thing that makes it possible for him to take the other life-sustaining medications that he needs. -
